Parent Participation
Parents are invited to participate in class programs and to contribute to School Council and its associated sub-committees. These sub-committees meet to consider:
- Finance
- Curriculum
- Environment
- Fundraising
Your involvement and interest in your child’s education is crucial, with research showing it is the single most important factor of student success. At Newtown Primary School we encourage and promote a healthy, vital partnership between home and school. We constantly look to ways to educate you as well as your child, to involve you in your child’s education in various ways and to develop a two-way communication between you and the teachers.
Parents who can attend school during the day are welcome to be involved in:
Literacy Block | Library Maintenance
Hearing children read | Special Days & activities
Typing of children’s stories | Interschool sports
Camps/Excursions | Canteen |
Parents are asked from time to time to nominate which areas they would like to be involved in for the year or may be asked to participate in a particular activity. Please see your child’s teacher if interested. It is your child who will benefit most from your involvement.
At home parents are encouraged to:
- Talk to children about their education
- Set up a suitable work area
- Read to their children and let them read to you
- Help their children but expect them to do their own work
