Middle Team

Curriculum Middle students will be enhancing their   Recount and Narrative writing   skills during term one. The Middle Team will also be encouraged to find their   voice through the use of a Writer’s   Notebook. Writer’s Notebooks are an opportunity for students to write about their interests in their own unique book – we ask that all students bring in a special notebook to participate in this (A5 or A4 size).

In reading,   a major focus is gaining deeper understanding of texts that students are reading or viewing. It is extremely helpful if parents are able to listen to reading and discuss the content.

In maths,   we will be focusing on Place Value. We will be using Fluid Maths Groupings to best target students’ individual points   of need.

The Integrated Studies areas for term one are communicating and interacting for health and wellbeing, and contributing to healthy and active  communities.

There is a strong focus on Respect for Self as students move   into the Middle Team. This starts with the expectation that students take on greater independence and responsibility in many areas of their learning. A key part of this expectation is that students are responsible for bringing   their diary to school every day, recording home reading in their diary, signing iPads in and out, and returning notes to the office before or after learning time.

Rotations will be on Friday. Mrs Ashkanasy will be taking Sustainability incorporating the garden and cooking, Mr Steinman will be taking Sport and Mr O’Meara will take ICT/ Media and Communication.

Middle Camp will be to Camp Burnside, Anglesea. Campers will depart on Monday, March 5 and return on Tuesday, March 6. Please ensure   permission forms and payment is made in advance of the camp.

Digital technology

Students are invited to bring iPads to   school in the Middle community as a tool to enhance their learning. It is a   personal choice as to whether students participate in the BYOD program, with   a number of classroom iPads and desktop computers available for students who   do not bring an iPad to school.

Some of the applications/ programs we   will focus on are:

  •   Google Apps for   Education (Classroom, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides)
  •   Seesaw
  •   epic (reading)
  •   iMovie

In order to use Digital technology at   NPS, students need to complete and return the Acceptable Use Agreement. Without this, students will not be able   to use any technology at school.

Students are able to borrow books from the school library. Students need   to bring a bag. Middle Ash will have library on a Monday, Middle Steinman on Tuesday and Middle O’Meara on Friday.

A few reminders with the safety of our   students in mind. At NPS we do not   share food. We have a number of students with allergies and it could put them at an unnecessary risk. Similarly, NPS is a Nut Free School and is H2O only. Please respect these expectations with the safety of all of our students in mind.

Tissue donations are always welcome.
