                      MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER

It is great to see how the middle school students are growing in confidence and maturity as the year progresses.  Through their growing confidence they are learning to ask more questions; research ideas and concepts, explore and learn more about areas of interest, increase learning about the use of technology, and think like creative and thoughtful leaders.  Some key points to mention for this term are listed below.

TERM THEME – Humanities and Geography

Across the school, the students are exploring various Geography themes.  The middle school focus, in line with the curriculum guidelines, is ‘Diversity and the significance of places and environments.’ The students have been researching the local geographic icon, the You Yangs.  It is anticipated that there may be an excursion related to this theme later in the term.

Thank you to all the families who have been able to support the BYOD program at school.  The middle school grades have established expectations in regards to daily checking in and checking out of iPads at the beginning and end of the day. Students are aware of the correct use procedures through the agreements that they have signed, and signage noted in each class.  Please bring iPads to school each day as they are now an expected part of our classroom learning tools and built into the programs and quality learning tasks that are part of our learning.

Please note, all the apps that we have chosen are FREE to use at school.  If you wish to purchase any extensions of these programs at home, that is your families’ personal choice.  (For example, the Epic program is available and free to use at school, but has a subscription fee if you wish to access it at home.)

Diaries are an integral part of our communication between families and school.  Students are expected to bring their diary to school each day.

NOT OK to Be Away

It is important that all students attend school each school day.   This enables consistency in learning that is carefully and mindfully sequenced by the planning that our team of teachers prepare.  If your child is unwell it is important to keep them at home so that they do not put others at risk.

Remember to return student permission notes and payment for the Saltbush excursion on Tuesday 29th August.  We are all looking forward to this creative theatrical experience; integrating Indigenous storytelling, visual and performing arts.

All classes are busy practising their school concert items, getting ready for the major performance at the Arena on Monday 18th September.  A note about costume requirements for each class will be sent home as we get closer to the date.
