Junior News – Term Four

Welcome back to fourth term, which yet again promises to be a busy one. Everyone has returned well rested and are

settling back into their daily classroom routines.

Fluid Maths

Fluid maths groups have again been formed based on an online assessment that targets students’ individual points of need. These occur three mornings a week in the Junior classrooms and may see your child working with one of the other

Junior teachers. Topics we are covering this term are Time, Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, and Place Value. Other areas of the numeracy curriculum will be covered in class-based maths sessions on the other two days.

A reminder that students do Rotations every Thursday. In order to borrow up to 4 books, students must bring a library bag for protection of the books. Also, Physical Education sessions require appropriate sports footwear and clothing including a broad-brimmed hat.

Inquiry Unit

This term’s Inquiry question is “How Can We Improve Newtown Primary School?” with a focus on Design and Technology. If you have any connections to Design and Technology in the broader community please let your child’s classroom teacher know as this could facilitate learning. It would be great if you could start collecting any materials you have at home such as cereal boxes, glad wrap rolls, paper plates, etc. Please note, toilet rolls, egg containers or anything that may have contained nuts should not be brought in.

Stay connected to Compass and check the weekly newsletter for important dates. There is lots on in a bumper term four! All reporting will continue to be available through Compass. If you have not logged into Compass, contact the office for your Username and Password.

Newtown Primary School is a SunSmart school. Students must wear navy blue broad-brimmed school hats when outside for snack, lunch and during Physical Education. Students without hats must play in a covered area.

Lost Property Challenge

Our school has the goal of returning all property to it’s rightful owner. You can help us by labelling all of your childrens’ property clearly.
