MAJOR PROJECTS IN THE LIBRARY IN 2014

THE STUDENTS

The students have been very busy working on a number of learning projects during 2014.

The prep and  junior school students’ learning has been based around basic keyboard and computer skills, research (learning the skills of research and using them to find information about the effect of waste on the environment, and about particular authors) and evaluating books (writing reviews, making connections and comparing books written by the same author).

The middle school students have been focusing heavily on research and presentation skills (predominantly skills linked with PowerPoint) over the year. They have worked independently and in small groups to research the effect of waste on the environment (a link with their integrated unit) and written a story using PowerPoint as their means of presentation. They have also researched authors, and prepared a PowerPoint presentation about their favourite author.

The senior students worked in small groups to plan, draft, finalise and illustrate a picture book suitable for junior students. The theme for this year’s Picture Story Book Project was fantasy.

THE BOOKS

In order to ensure that the books available to students and teachers are of the best quality, with current information and have the potential for the greatest enjoyment, the shelves have undergone a major clean out. The non-fiction titles were the first to undergo this process and the remaining picture books and chapter books will follow.
