Our School Profile

At Newtown, we learn and flourish together. Newtown Primary School has an enrolment of approximately 200 students. Our school has a strong record of performance in both Literacy and Numeracy.

tudents have personal commitment to their learning by participating in setting learning goals and monitoring their progress as they engage in meaningful tasks.  

Additional ‘specialist’ programs are offered in the areas of Physical Education, the Arts, Indonesian and Music and Performing Arts. 

The Newtown school community is invited to be active in our school at many levels. From the formal School Council structure and parent-teacher conferences, to informal community picnics and meet’n’greet evenings, Art shows, school concerts and graduation ceremonies. Plus many more opportinities. The community demonstrates a close connection to the school.

The school grounds are a source of great pride as our entire community are encouraged to work together to keep these learning and play spaces safe and attractive. Significant ground works have been undertaken, with some still to come, to further develop and rejuvenate external areas of the school such as, the vegetable garden and the development of an outdoor classroom area and resurfacing of the school’s basketball court. 2024/25 will see further asphalting resurfacing works and artificial turf installation.     

In recent years, cultural diversity has become a feature of our school.  Students from Sri Lanka, Greece, Singapore, India, Brazil, France and China participate fully in our school program and enrich our lives through their generous sharing of the culture of their mother country. Newtown Primary School is accredited to deliver education to International students and we explicitly plan for their academic progress and wellbeing.

Newtown Primary School is an accredited provider of education for International Students through the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS Provider Code: 00861K).

In 2024, Newtown Primary School operates 9 generalist classrooms and 4 specialist classes with an average class of 22 students. A fulltime Assistant Principal and Principal lead the school supported by 9 Education Support staff (adminstration and classroom based), an Occupational Therapist 1.25 days per week, as well as an experienced Learning Tutor 2 days per week (in terms 2 and 3, 2024). From term 2, 2024 Newtown will also have employed a student Wellbeing support person who will be onsite 1 day per week.

Our experienced staff work and plan collaboratively in PLC (professional learning communities) to meet the diverse needs of all our students.
